About

Elena Damasio was born in 1995 in the beautiful city of Turin, Italy. She lived the first part of her life in the wine-friendly city of Asti until she discovered the circus and flew away with it, seeking for new adventures and challenges to learn from.

It was a summer evening, she was playing the violin with the young orchestra of her town and two people from far away decided that the nearby village was very suitable for a brand new youth circus school. That night they gave a small performance and Elena immediately fell in love with circus, announcing on the spot to embark on that career, by enrolling as first pupil in the new school. She saw it as her call of bringing joy to the people and making them forget about their problems - even if just for one minute.

In the following years she continued to professionally study circus, graduating in 2016 from “Scuola di Cirko Vertigo” in Grugliasco (TO) and getting a Bachelor degree in 2020 from Codarts, University for the Arts in Rotterdam (NL) where she specialized in Cyr wheel.

She created, together with the collective Trenina, her first show "MOI-RA-I" which premiered in 2021.

She worked for two years as an interpret in the show "Trait(S)" by the company Scom traveling all around France.

She is now creating her second 5o minute show "Paces" with Accompany ME, formed together with Monika Neverauskaite. The premiere is set for June 2024 at the Cirkuliacjia festival in Lithuania.

Something more...

Elena Damasio is a versatile performer specialized in Cyr wheel. She also has skills in dance, acrobatic, juggling and she likes to play the violin.

She likes to explore the numerous qualities and limits within herself and within the Cyr wheel, in the communication towards the public, in her own artistic enrichment as performer and in the general development of her skills.

Her approach to the wheel is quite energetic and playful, it can also be very sweet and soft at times. Elena often thinks and feels that the wheel and her form a duo and that they can affect each other in different ways. She likes to create surreal and absurd realities to add another layer to her work. For her, imagination is the best tool to be able to transmit an idea or a message to the audience and to be meaningful in what she does.

Elena likes to challenge herself in the different acts by creating combinations of hard tricks and hard manipulations while keeping the dramaturgy and the physicality throughout the piece. Elena’s work often aims to make the audience perceive the cyr wheel as an entity of its own, another being, not making clear who is manipulating who.
